نان به آن دسته از غذاها اطلاق می شود که با پختن، بخارپز کردن و یا سرخ کردن خمیری که متشکل از آرد و آب است، تهیه می شود. در بیشتر خمیرها نمک هم لازم است و معمولاً از یک ماده برای ور آمدن خمیر نان استفاده می کنند. در تهیه نان به غیر از نمک، مخمر، روغن و آب، و گاهی برخی ادویه جات، از انواع غلات استفاده می کنند و انواع بسیار متفاوتی نان را عرضه می نمایند. نان در سراسر دنیا، یک غذای اصلی محسوب می شود. معمولاً از آرد گندم خمیری تهیه می کنند که به کمک خمیر مایه، ور می آید و حجمش زیاد می شود و در نهایت درون تنور یا فر آنرا می پزند.
