The eight-year war between Iran and Iraq is referred to as the “Sacred Defense.” To find out why many tourists travel to remote border regions where more than one million soldiers lost their lives from 1980 to 1988. These lands are considered sacred by Iranians because of the blood of the martyrs who lost their lives defending Iran and fighting against Iraqi invaders. Former soldiers and war veterans usually travel along and to tell stories of the courage and sacrifice of those who were martyred. These tours are called “Rahian-e Nour” which literally means: “Passengers of light.” This is the story of a group of expats living in Iran who decide to go on one of theses tours.
