میدان مرکزی میوه و تره بار با وسعت ۲۷۰ هکتاری خود، از مساحت کشوری همچو موناکو بزرگتر و با مساحت کشوری همچون ماکائو برابری می‌کند و جمعیت ۶۰ تا ۱۰۰ هزار نفری ای که روزانه در آن تردد می‌کنند، از جمعیت جزایری همچون گرینلند، برمودا و دومینیکا بیشتر است و این ویژگی‌هاست که میدان مرکزی میوه و تره بار را به شهری در دل کلان شهر تهران تبدیل کرده است.
میدان مرکزی میوه و تره بار با ۱۳۶۰ باب حجره در مساحتی بالغ بر ۲۷۰ هکتار، میوه و تره بار مصرفی جمعیت ۹ میلیون نفری پایتخت را تامین می‌کند که بنا به فصول مختلف، جمعیت ثابتی بین ۱۰ تا ۱۵ هزار نفر را در خود جای می دهد و روزانه حدود ۲۰ هزار دستگاه انواع خودروهای سبک و سنگین به آن رفت و آمد دارند.
وی با اعلام اینکه ۴۸ هکتار از مساحت ۲۷۰ هکتاری میدان مرکزی را فضای سبز در بر می‌گیرد، افزود: تقریبا ۱۸ درصد کل فضای این میدان را فضای سبز تشکیل داده است که با این حساب باید گفت میدان مرکزی میوه و تره بار یکی از سرسبزترین نقاط پایتخت است.
