علاقه‌ی علیرضا پوراستاد به خواندن، مربوط می‌شود به دوران پیش از دبستان. در دوران دبستان در رشته‌های قرائت، اذان و تواشیح رتبه‌های مختلف کسب کرد. در سنین نوجواني رديف استاد مهرتاش و قوامي را در محضر آقای ابراهيم ذوالقدر و استاد محسن چراغچی و جناب اقای محمد صدری فرا گرفت.
رديف و شيوه‌ی آوازی استاد طاهرزاده و مکتب تهران را زیر نظر آقای مهیار شادروان آموخت.
علیرضا پوراستاد افتخار شاگردی در محضراستاد محمدرضا لطفی را بیش از سه سال در کارنامه خود دارد و اصول و مبانی رديف و آواز را از ایشان فرا گرفته است.
از وی تاکنون آثار زیبایی چون گیسو، کجای دنیا و زخم پنهان منتشر شده است
