استان فارس یکی از استان‌های ایران است که در بخش جنوب این کشور واقع شده‌است. آب و هوای استان فارس در نقاط مختلف این استان به سه گونه کوهستانی، معتدل و گرم تقسیم می‌شود.
استان فارس با مساحتی در حدود ۱۲۲٬۶۰۸ کیلومتر مربع، چهارمین استان بزرگ و با جمعیتی معادل ۴٬۸۵۱٬۲۷۴ تن، بر طبق برآورد جمعیتی سال ۱۳۹۵ خورشیدی مرکز آمار ایران، چهارمین استان پرجمعیت ایران به‌شمار می‌رود.
استان فارس با وجود جاذبه‌های متعدد فرهنگی، تاریخی، طبیعی و مذهبی، یکی از مراکز مهم گردشگری ایران است. همچنین شماری از مراکز مهم دانشگاهی ایران نیز در این استان واقع شده‌است.

غار سنگ تراشان یک غار دست‌ساز در شهر جهرم می‌باشد که به بزرگ‌ترین غار دست‌ساز جهان معروف است.از این غار به عنوان غار سنگ اشکن، سنگ شکنان و سنگ شکن نیز نام برده می‌شود.
غار سنگ تراشان مجموعه‌ای از دهانه‌ها و ستون‌هایی است که به صورت دالان‌های متقاطع دیده می‌شود. این دالان‌ها بر اثر برداشت و استخراج سنگ‌های سفید آهکی و دولومیتی به وجود آمده‌اند و از آن به عنوان بزرگترین غار مصنوعی جهان یاد می‌کنند. البته غارهای مصنوعی بزرگ‌تر از غار سنگ تراشان در جهان وجود دارد، اما اکثر آن‌ها به شکل یک تونل یا دالان سراسری هستند و بر اثر استخراج مواد معدنی با وسایل مکانیکی و ماشین آلات مختلف ایجاد شده‌اند؛ بنابراین می‌توان گفت غاری بزرگتر از این غار که کاملاً دست‌ساز و به این شکل خاص یعنی دارای دالان‌ها، ستون‌ها و دهانه‌های متعدد باشد وجود ندارد.

Fars Province, also known as Pars and Persis (Persia), is one of the thirty-one provinces of Iran. With an area of 122,400 km², it is located in Iran's southwest, in Region 2, and its administrative center is Shiraz.
