The lower embankments on both sides of the flooding river Danube in central Budapest are expected to be closed down for traffic in the late afternoon hours on Monday, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) told MTI.
BKK noted that the first section of the embankment is usually closed down when the water level reaches 640 centimetres.
The centre has warned people who had parked cars along the embankments to remove their vehicles from the flood-prone area.
The expected closure of the embankments as well as traffic restrictions in connection with European delegations arriving in Budapest are likely to cause jams in the city, the BKK statement added.
