A rare disease is defined as a condition affecting fewer than 1 in 2000 people. There are more than 8000 diagnosed rare diseases in the world while many more are undiagnosed. Most known rare disorders are severe and chronic, with many being degenerative and life threatening.
Iran’s Rare Disease Foundation is dedicated to providing support both for the scientists conducting research on these rare conditions and the families affected by them.
In this report we will take a closer look some patients that have been diagnosed with rare diseases and discuss the latest breakthroughs in treating those conditions with Iranian scientists.
