Ruptly is live from outside Tehran’s Jam Hospital on Thursday, October 8, following the death of Iranian musician Mohammad Reza Shajarian. Shajarian, 80, had been receiving treatment for kidney cancer for some 15 years, both inside and outside of Iran.
Shajarian’s son, Homayoun, tweeted that his father “flew” to meet the heavens. Considered a legendary voice of Persian music, the musician also became famous for his political stance in support of protesters following Iran’s 2009 elections.
