An Iranian musical instrument called the "Kamancheh" was recently added to the UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage. This gave us a good excuse to take a closer look at this traditional musical string instrument which dates back to the 9th century and is considered an ancestor of the European violin family.
It might be interesting for you to know that the Kamancheh first received international recognition when well-known Iranian musician Keyhan Kalhor together with the “Silk Road” ensemble won a Grammy Award for the album “Sing me Home” back in February 2017.
