Winter at Tantora was a traditional celebration to mark the start of the 40 day winter growing season. The name of the festival 'Tantora' is inspired by a sundial located in the old town of Al-Ula, which has been using by the locals as a marker for the changing of the seasons. In December 2018, Winter at Tantora Festival became an annual festival for music culture and arts; offering a variety of diverse experiences to match every interest. The festival runs each weekend from 19 December 2019 until 7 March 2020. Festival goers will have the opportunity to participate in a range of unique events and experiences, from visiting spectacular historic sites to hearing world-class musical performances to soaring above the landscape in a hot air balloon or vintage aircraft.

Al Ula is a governorate of the Medina Region and a city in north-western Saudi Arabia. Al-ʿUla was the capital of the ancient Lihyanites (Dedanites). The governorate contains the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Saudi Kingdom, called Madain Saleh (Hegra), 22 km (14 mi) north of the city. Madain Saleh was built more than 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans. Al-'Ula, the walled city, is packed with mud-brick and stone houses
