Why did the regime carry out such savage killings?
Imagine a cat trapped alone in a room. For its own survival, it lashes out with its last claws.
That is exactly what they did in their think tanks—repeating the same old scenario, only more brutally, and slaughtering thousands.
They told themselves: “Let’s kill a massive number all at once, as much as we can. Then we’ll wait a week or two until the dust settles and things cool down. Once people grow tired and the outrage fades, we’ll quietly execute the rest—ten by ten. In the meantime, we’ll hire a few voices (what did we save all that oil money for, after all?) to go abroad and tell people outside the country that everything is normal, that life has returned to normal. And ten years from now, we’ll still be in power.”
This is the story. This is the reality.
So what must be done? We must continue. With strength.
This regime must go.
Every single day, we must speak out. Silence is not an option.
Every single day, we must remember and name the murdered.
They say time makes the ground grow cold. But when that ground is the homeland, and those buried in it were killed for their country, it never grows cold.
We stand together until the end.
“Sepehr, where are you, my son?”
“Dad, go ahead—I’m right behind you.”
A final dance at the grave
